Background of the Study

Cloud-based network management has revolutionized how organizations, including universities, manage their IT infrastructure. Traditional on-premises network management solutions require significant resources for maintenance, scalability, and security, making them inefficient in dynamic environments (Afolabi et al., 2023). Cloud-based network management offers a scalable, cost-effective, and secure alternative by enabling remote monitoring, automated configuration, and real-time analytics.

Federal University, Gusau, has an expanding digital infrastructure, requiring an efficient and secure network management approach. Cloud-based solutions provide centralized control, improve network visibility, and enhance security by leveraging artificial intelligence (Alhassan & Yusuf, 2024). However, despite its advantages, challenges such as latency, data privacy concerns, and integration with existing systems remain key areas of investigation.

Statement of the Problem

The university currently faces difficulties in managing its growing network infrastructure due to the limitations of traditional on-premises management solutions. These challenges include high maintenance costs, limited scalability, and inefficient troubleshooting processes. Additionally, the lack of real-time monitoring capabilities makes it difficult to detect and respond to network threats promptly. This study investigates the adoption of cloud-based network management to address these challenges, evaluating its benefits and potential drawbacks.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To examine the current network management challenges at Federal University, Gusau.

  2. To investigate the benefits and drawbacks of cloud-based network management.

  3. To propose strategies for effective implementation of cloud-based network management at the university.

Research Questions

  1. What are the key challenges faced by the university in managing its network infrastructure?

  2. How can cloud-based network management enhance efficiency and security in the university’s IT infrastructure?

  3. What strategies can be adopted for the successful implementation of cloud-based network management?

Significance of the Study

This study will provide valuable insights into how cloud-based network management can improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance security at Federal University, Gusau. The findings will assist IT administrators in making informed decisions regarding network infrastructure upgrades.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study is limited to the investigation of cloud-based network management at Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State. It focuses on management efficiency, security, and implementation strategies but does not cover other cloud computing aspects such as cloud storage and software as a service (SaaS).

Definitions of Terms

  • Cloud-Based Network Management: A system that uses cloud infrastructure to remotely monitor, configure, and secure network resources.

  • Network Visibility: The ability to monitor and analyze network activity in real time.

  • Latency: The delay in data transmission due to network congestion or distance.
